New Pocket PC Consumer Dilemma as Microsoft Releases Zune

It looks like Microsoft is poised to corner another type of market as they work diligently to hustle Apple out of the mobile digital player market.

Engadget has posted factoids and some intriguing speculation on Zune as the advent of the latest gadget to make us salivate.

With all the Microsoft Windows Mobile games that we've gotten into, it makes you wonder what Zune has in store for us.

If anything this will present even more consumer confusion as PDA game aficionados are presented with a new dilemma.

Zune's display is purported to be larger than an emasculated video iPod's and packs 30 gigabytes of storage.

You may remember an earlier article on this site regarding early rumours of the new Zune operating system.

The name 'Zune' is also synonymous with the unit as well as the software powering the device. Hope that was confusing enough.

Even more telling, recent news suggests that most users are not really digging the iTunes online music store scene as much as they used to with a drop in subscribers.

Given the lack of laws prohibiting the download of MP3 files here in Canada, this is hardly surprising news.

With no cap on iTunes burning or MP3 reproduction allowing for file sharing ad nauseum, this only serves to compound the issue as referenced by TechNewsWorld

microsoft-zune-mp3-software-releaseOur Americans cousins are probably thumbing their nose at preventive legislation, made even easier with the Zune's purported wireless file sharing capabilities.

In the interim, we'll still be downloading MP3s to our PDAs and adding grave insult to injury by dressing up our Pocket PCs with iPod skins for those 'in your face' moments.

Microsoft's move could not be more timely, considering Apple's recent release of iTunes 7.

This latest glitchy iTunes upgrade was faced with complaints of distorted sound from music files from disgruntled downloaders.

With fare like this, they'll have to get their act together to achieve some lucrative legitimacy for these downloads in spite of moves like BitTorrent pacts with the MPAA to stamp out piracy.
