Free Sudoku - SuperDoku for Pocket PC Reviewed
As far as free Sudoku downloads go, you can't go far wrong with SuperDoku by Mike Miller. Your feature set is quite basic, but you still get tons more than you'd expect from Pocket PC freeware. You can download the reviewed

with a bent for self-inflicted numerological torture. Not to say that SuperDoku doesn't have a whole lot to offer on its own with an impressive array of custom skins to choose from as well as the ability to create your own. Display
I've got to hand it to SuperDoku for serving a Pocket PC freeware offering with this kind of aesthetic assortment. The effort behind this is quite apparent. The base download comes with 11 different skins, from embossed-looking hieroglyphics to Bejeweled 2 style gems. You have the freedom to create your own custom skins if your Paint program is gathering dust from disuse. It comes complete with instructions on integrating them into your free Sudoku skin collection. Simply conform to the dimensions of the existing skins. GameplayThe gameplay is vaguely reminiscent of those aspects outlined in
my Sudoku Rules! review
in that you pick the number to place in the cell from a strip of numbers from 1 - 9. It does not feature a number pad option, so this is really where these similarities end. Play is quite straightforward; it only took me a couple of minutes to pick up the interface. You have the inevitable pencil mark options with a 'crayon scrawler' setting that can be used in lieu of pencil marks which are a little on the small side but still readable. Alternately, you can use it to map plays out to ensure successful Sudoku solutions without playing yourself into a grid corner as you carry through mistakes. The crayon marks also come in handy for some quick scrawling over the entirety of the grid as another useful bonus considering its Pocket PC freeware status.
Levels
All other SuperDoku levels except for Beginner are locked. Passing each difficulty level unlocks the subsequent level to be beaten. You have to do this without using the 'solve' features or full hints for the level unlock to occur. The hint engine is not as comprehensive as Sudoku Rules! with a flashing question mark for the basic hint and a flashing numeral for the full. Still, an auto-save feature is included to save your progress automatically for set intervals of 1, 5, 10 and 15 minutes. You may need it without a robust hint engine system as you progress through levels. The number of difficulty levels are slightly higher than the average Sudoku download with a total of 8 from Beginner to Hardest. ConclusionsSuperDoku has a lot to offer with a full skin assortment for habitual 'Sudoku-eyes' sufferers, a basic hint engine and engaging gameplay. Handy auto-save options. Unfortunately, no options to share game grids with friends to swap Sudoku horror stories or cross-hatching. PDAGameGuide Rating: 4.1 out of 5
