I've been bitten by the Mahjongg game Pocket PC bug.As such, I've tracked down some newly released free and paid Mahjongg game downloads for the PDA that are worth a gander.
Free Mahjongg Game Download
Kyodai Mahjongg Rivers by RL Design is Mahjongg game freeware for Pocket PC.
The tiles are clearly presented, with options for 1 or 2 layer games.
An annoying, tinny techno beat serves as an ill-matched, hideous accompaniment to the Mahjongg game action.
Thankfully, you can disable the sound.
The background is finely detailed, and the fade effect as Mahjongg game tiles are matched is decent.
Not at all a poor showing as long as no one actually tries to peddle this as anything but Pocket PC freeware.
Mahjongg Mystery is a free Mahjongg game in Java for your desktop PC counterpart if you feel the need to complement your Pocket PC experience.
The tiles stand out in stark relief from the backdrops, offering up some cathartic Java gaming as an office boredom suppressant.
The audio is vaguely reminiscent of arcade gaming, especially on tile matchup. I found this version quite enjoyable.
Be mindful of the move limit restriction for this offering, depicted as a gauge to the right of the playing field.
Paid Mahjongg Game Downloads
If three-dimensional aesthetics is more your thing, Mahjongg Deluxe 3D 2.0 by Klaar devices may prove a bit more suitable.
This new version boasts of fast 2D overview modes as well as some fast 3D.
The most intriguing attribute of Mahjongg is the ability to drag your tiles across the screen, allowing viewing at any angle.
I was able to do this on my 400-Mhz iPAQ with ease at the maximum quality settings as the tiles scrolled panned smoothly through
space.
Coupled with some aesthetically pleasing backdrops, it made for some quality Pocket PC Mahjongg game entertainment as I clicked and dragged the entire tile set.
In addition to the version 2.0 update, diehards may wish to spring for 47 new layouts with the Mahjongg Deluxe 3D Expansion Pack 2.0, also newly released.
I say diehards only because some would balk at an expansion costing half as much as the full game, even if the price is still pretty low.
Still, why not offer a bundled installation instead of offering two low-priced Mahjongg downloads? I'm not sure.
As for 2D games, I checked out Mahjong 1.0 by Absolutist. It turned out to be the grandaddy of the Pocket PC Mahjongg game downloads.
The Mahjong 1.0 trial download revealed an intricately coloured background with superbly animated special effects when matching tiles.
You'll also find some mesmerizing tile distengration as they turn into green vapour trails.
One thing seems certain.
While I can't say the same about real-time strategy games, we'll never be short on excellent Mahjongg game downloads for the Pocket PC platform.
