The appearance of this new iPAQ has not really proved to be in PDA gamers' cumulative interest, especially in the face of middling hw6515 review trauma.Previously released in Europe and Asia in July 2005, the hw6515 smartphone's entry to the US market was a bit belated as it has just arrived.
This US Johnny-come-lately's arrival is akin to a Grade B celebrity appearance at an event. The apathy is evident amongst online mobile device reviewers for the typical hw6515 review.
Jørgen Sundgot at Infosyncworld.com harped on its thumbboard in his hw6515 review. Despite it's excellent audible, tactile feedback, he claims that quick double taps aren't recognized most of the time.
Such a review will prove to be anathema for Pocket PC gamers, many of whom rely on quick D-pad and hardware button response when sating their Arkanoid fix.
A double-press can also make the difference between a killer Pocket PC Galaga fighting machine and laser fodder.
The reviewer also notes that a volume adjustment rocker on the left side was prone to inadvertent adjustment-- a sharp blow to surreptitious Pocket PC office gamers like myself.
Many a hw6515 review also panned the device for its slow 312-Mhz processor, noting lag issues when using concurrent applications.
That may not bode well if you've grown accustomed to frenetic, quality light-sourced Pocket PC game releases like Flux Challenge that simply don't port well to the Smartphone platform.
Still, there are quality Smartphone game releases with just about any number of Pocket PC counterparts for popular PPC turn-based game titles like Worms World Party, for example.
Couple this with an HP hw6515 review on asia.cnet.com that surfaced a few months ago when the device surfaced in Asia in July.
Note the 1,200mAh Lithium-ion battery that drains after one day of normal usage, and this is one foot in the PDA gaming hole for the hw6515.
The prevalence of Smartphone games may not be enough for this middling effort by HP. Let's hope that they can push the technology envelope a bit further next time.
A bit further than Windows Mobile 2003 for our newer smartphones, at least.
